World Green Roof Congress in London

18th Jul, 2008 to 30th Sep, 2008

A major conference on green roofs is being held on 17 and 18 September in Bishopsgate, central London. The main organisers are CIRIA (the Construction Industry Research Association) and Livingroofs.org. The Greater London Authority are hosting a reception for delegates on 16 September.

Full details are available at www.worldgreenroofconference.com

Speakers include representatives of industry, European local authorities, universities, Government agencies and practitioners. Their subjects cover such topics as planning and design, construction, stormwater management, biodiversity and adaptation to climate change. The organisers say that those who should attend include engineers, local authority staff, consultants, architects, manufacturers and policy and decision makers.

The fees are £300 or £400 plus VAT depending on your affiliations.

As well as the website further information is available from Dusty Gedge at livingroofs.org and Paul Shaffer at CIRIA.

Hopefully this event will hasten the day when consideration of green roofs becomes the norm in this country, and we can move the technique out of the 'special project' pigeonhole within which it still seems to reside.
